[Sydney] Macquarie Links International Golf Club - Scottish Links Course

by SydGolfnTravel 2025. 7. 5.

Located between Ingleburn and Macquarie Fields in Sydney's southwest, Macquarie Links International Golf Club is a course that is highly regarded by golfers as the closest thing to a Scottish links course in Sydney. Although it is located far from the sea, it is not like a Scottish coastal course with a sea breeze, but the hazards and pot bunkers scattered here and there show the appearance of a links-style course.

Location and basic information

Macquarie Links is located about 40-50 minutes by car from Sydney city center, and is located in a luxury residential complex called Macquarie Links Residential Estate, so you can enjoy a round of golf in a quiet and safe atmosphere. Construction began in 1996 and it officially opened in 2001, and it is operated as a semi-public form that combines private and public forms with the luxury residential complex.

Course Features

The course at Macquarie Links is located on gently rolling hills and features wide fairways throughout, but there are also trees between the holes, long grass typical of links golf, water hazards including valleys, and fairway and green bunkers that await players' challenges.

  • The first nine holes feature relatively loose fairways that encourage stable tee shots, but the back nine holes present a completely different challenge.
  • Especially the two par 3 holes in the latter half are challenging holes for golfers playing at Macquarie Links.
The 11th hole “Billabong” is a 170-meter hole, a signature hole that requires perfect distance and direction as it crosses a deep valley to reach the green.
The 15th hole is a long par 3 hole of 200 meters, and it is a hole where it is difficult to save par if the accuracy or distance is short.
  • Links-style pot bunkers dotted throughout the long par 4 and par 5 holes give the feel of a Scottish coastal course right in the heart of Australia.

Golf life with luxury housing complex

Macquarie Links is unique in that it is a golf community designed within a luxury residential complex rather than a standalone golf course. It is a gated community with strict security and privacy, to the point that you have to check in with a security guard at the gate to enter the  golf club, and the houses and course are harmoniously arranged, providing a lifestyle where you can move from the house to the ground.

There are no resort-style accommodations, but many golfers enjoy weekend golf trips using the short-term rental houses within the complex. The clubhouse features a modern interior and a high-end lounge, banquet hall, restaurant & bar, making it ideal for after-round dining or small events.
