[Sydney] Muirfield Golf Club - North Rocks

by SydGolfnTravel 2025. 7. 6.

Located in North Rocks, a quiet and secluded residential area in Sydney's Northwest, Muirfield Golf Club may look like a quiet local golf course on the outside, but once you step inside, you'll find it packed with the charm of a proper round of golf in the heart of the city.

Location and basic information

  • Address: Barclay Rd, North Rocks NSW 2151 (approximately 35 minutes drive from Sydney CBD, 15 minutes from Parramatta)
  • Hole layout: 18 holes, par 69–70 (men 5612m, women 5161m)
  • Green Fee: $60 for 18 holes, $45 for 9 holes

Course Introduction

  • Total 18 holes / Par 69 (Par 3 holes: 5, Par 4 holes: 11, Par 5 holes: 2)
  • Relatively narrow and short configuration
  • Various doglegs and up-and-down terrain

Muirfield's course is a short and compact par 69 overall, but it is by no means easy. The fairway is not wide, so an accurate tee shot is required, and several holes have doglegs, so course management is important. For long hitters, it may be advantageous to use a utility, wood, or long iron to hit the tee shot rather than a driver.

However, the long par 4 holes, indexed 1 and 2, 5 and 12, require both distance and accuracy, testing the golfer's concentration.

Green state

The greens at Muirfield are generally small, and each hole has a subtle slope, making putting lines difficult, making each shot tense. Because of this, each round feels different, and this is one of the reasons I often visit Muirfield.

Clubhouse & Facilities

  • The clubhouse overlooking the 18th green after play is one of the attractions of Murifield golf club.
  • Complete with basic facilities including practice net, putting green, pro shop, iron practice hole, and practice bunker
  • Member locker room and shower facilities

Overall Review

My impression of Muirfield Golf Club is that it is a small but solid golf course. It has a good mix of difficult greens, easy holes, and difficult holes, so it is challenging, but also has elements that are comfortable for beginners. It is a place I would definitely recommend to golfers who want to improve their skills and enjoy a leisurely round in Sydney.
