[Sydney] Riverside Oaks Golf Club - Two Championship Courses

by SydGolfnTravel 2025. 7. 9.

If you love golf, there is no better place near Sydney than Riverside Oaks Golf Club.
Golf makes me love traveling more, and I like to travel to find new courses. I would like to introduce a quiet and cozy golf course with fairways along the river and forest not far from Sydney.

Location & Basic Information

  • Address: 74 O'Briens Rd, Cattai NSW 2756, Australia
  • Accessibility: Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes from Sydney CBD
  • Hole composition: Total 36 holes (Gangurru Course 18 holes + Bungool Course 18 holes)
  • Green Fee: Weekdays 18 holes $100 (golf cart included), Weekends: $120  (golf cart included)
  • Accommodation: Resort rooms within the clubhouse

Riverside Oaks is located near the Hawksbury River, about an hour and a half drive from the center of Sydney.
The drive to the golf course is a long one, and you can feel the leisure and refreshment of being away from the hustle and bustle of Sydney. Instead of the noise of the city, you can hear the gentle waves of the river, the forest like a primeval forest, and the birdsong from afar. This is not just a simple golf course, but a course where you can take a break and enjoy a true championship course.

36 Hole Championship Course – Gangurru and Bungool

This course operates with a total of 36 holes.

  • Gangurru Course is the original course of Riverside Oaks and is ranked 96th in the top 100 golf courses in Australia.
The wide and flat fairways provide comfort. However, bunkers and water hazards here and there tell you that it is by no means easy.
  • Bungool Course is a signature course that follows the river and is ranked 41st among the top 100 golf courses in Australia.
If you are an intermediate or higher level golfer, we recommend you try the Bungool Course to challenge yourself with the wind, river, and tight fairways. However, it is unfortunate that this course is not open to the general public these days.

Golf & Accommodation – If you don’t want to spend more than just one day

If you finish your round and have a beer with your partner on the terrace at the clubhouse while looking at the course, you will be able to laugh off the OB and 3 putts that happened that day. If you want a 1 night 2 days golf trip, staying at a club resort is also a good idea. If you use the Stay & Play package at a golf resort, you can play 18 holes or 36 holes while staying for 1 night.

I think it is an ideal model for a golf trip, as the golf course is itself a resort.

The Charm of Riverside Oaks

Riverside Oaks is a top-tier golf course not only in Sydney but also in Australia in terms of fairway management, bunker conditions, and green speed. While feeling the intention of the course design and thinking about 'where to cut safely and where to attack', you will realize the importance of course management rather than the swing itself, and it is a very well-designed course that allows you to feel that it is not easy to take it lightly just because it looks easy, and it is a course that any golfer can enjoy and be satisfied with.

Overall Review

If you want to enjoy golf, travel, and challenges in Sydney, I highly recommend Riverside Oaks Golf Club. Take a weekend getaway and enjoy a 36-hole round in nature, and spend the night with the forest and river as your friends. When you return to Sydney, you will remember the time you spent by the river more than the score.
